Spirit of Navarathri.

Navarathri (nava-nine ,rathri-nights) is a festival conducted all over India with the tenth day being vijayadashami. during this 9 day period goddess durga worshiped in various styles based on the location.
In Tamil Nadu the tradition is to arrange a golu in the house. some houses which have the tradition of having the golu for the navarathri arrange the dolls in a steps like arrangement. the dolls may be any thing like the avatars of goddess durga or the forms of vishnu or some thematic scenes.
last week i had been to many golus at various houses and temples. ¬†i had taken some pictures of which i’m giving you a glimpse of some.
(a pattern made of 9 types of pulses, fruits and flowers at a temple)
(a scene of Lord Shiva in the Kailas mountain)
(the statues which are beautifully arranged in the steps )
( dolls and a chariot arranged to show a temple scene)

of what use?

this was one story my physics teacher told me when i was in my 6th standard. though it has very little physics in it the incident is worth the time you will spend reading this post.

The incident: discovery of electricity.

In 1752, Franklin is said to have performed the famous experiment of flying a kite during a¬†thunderstorm, which led to the discovery that¬†lightning¬†and electricity were somehow related. and that was the first step towards the life we lead today. so franklin was excited with his find and wanted to exhibit it and he went to the court of the then ruler (i actually forgot the name of the king though ūüėČ ) anyway, when he displayed it to the king the king was¬†skeptical to the find and asked this question : ” of what use is this find to the people “. and franklin said ” this is just like questioning, ‘of what use is a new born to the community?’ “. you never know what the kid will grow into similarly you may never know what may come out of what every one calls a simple find.¬†

i’m not talking about the scientific researches alone here, never underestimate anybody or any idea. ūüôā

lessons from Lord Ganesha!

(a 1810 A.D. painting )
Some of us worship Lord Ganesha. Some of us¬†at least¬†see his picture very often. for those who don’t know Lord Ganesha/ Ganapathi/ Pillayar is¬†revered as the Remover of Obstacles. the elephant headed God is¬†worshiped¬†at the beginning of any work. it is said that the work will be a success if done so.¬†

There are a few lessons we could learn from Lord Ganesha’s anatomy. In this post i’m sharing the few of those which i heard some¬†years¬†ago.¬†

Big head: think BIG!
Never restrict your thoughts to certain well defined boundaries. open your mind and think about the millions of opportunities that are open to you.

Small Eyes: Concentrate on the goal.
Never waver from your goal. Be like Arjuna, who when asked to aim at a wooden bird with his arrow, told his guru that all his attention was on the bird’s eye only.

Large Ears: listen more.
Never assume that you are the all knowing one around. There are people around you with a far more extensive knowledge and by listening to what they have for you you can raise you intellectual level more.

One tusk: Retain the good. Throw away the bad.
one must accept the fact that no one is perfect but one can inch slowly towards that perfection by retaining all good thoughts, habits and discarding all bad stuff.

Trunk: be adaptable and highly efficient.
This is mainly about the survival of the fittest concept. To be successful one has to be adaptable to his environment.

Small mouth: Talk less.
A well known fact-” Empty vessels make more noise”. so quit the waste talks and do something more productive.

Axe: cut of all bonds of attachments.
Never let the bonds of attachment to hold you back from your goal.

Rope: pull yourself to your goal.
channel all your efforts in one stream, towards your goal and propel yourself forward.

Large stomach: Peacefully digest all good and bad that comes in life.
Learn to accept both the good and bad in life the same way.

Mouse: Desire.
Unless it is kept under control it causes havoc.you ride it and keep it under control. don’t let it take you for a ride.

Modaka (the prasad): rewards for your work.
Really yummy ūüėČ and worth all the efforts put in for it.

MOVIE: Enthiran /Robot
CAST: Rajnikanth, Aishwarya Rai, Danny Denzongpa, Santhanam, Karunas.

Enthiran is that movie which India cinema has been waiting for.  Shankar’s magnum opus, with a mega casting strikes a chord with the audience. Super star Rajnikanth and gorgeous Aishwarya Rai together with a impressive technical crew has charmed the entire world. The techno mood sets in right from the title song.

¬†¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† Rajni fits into the role of the¬†creator¬†(Dr. Vasigaran, the scientist) and the created (Chitti, the Robot)¬†with ultimate ease, while ash looks all the more beautiful as sana the medical college student. The story revolves around Dr. Vasi and chitti, the robot, “Processor – 1 TeraHZ. Memory – 1 Zetta Byte.” This is one robot which is programmed to do all the tasks. Further research by Dr.Vasi induces feelings into the bot bringing along a hoard of troubles. Along the way comes the¬†baddy prof. Bohra (Danny¬†Denzongpa) the scientist who tries to use chitti for his gain. Rajni‚Äôs villainous act as chitti (version 2.0) has awed the audience and it makes us think that none but Rajni could have done this role. ¬†This all lead to the ultimate climax where we witness the gripping fight which makes us wonder if we are watching a Hollywood movie.
Setting up platform for comedy are santhanam and karunas, who along with chitti rocked the first half of the movie and had people laughing out loud. Chitti casts a spell over the audience and has the audience falling for its innocence. The second half of the movie is the highlight.

¬†¬† ¬† ¬† ¬† ¬†The spectacular Visual effects Stan Winston Studio (their¬†credits: jurassic park, predator, terminator, iron man, avatar) provided the plus. Some scenes are really good while some scenes could be kept in check so as to reduce the length of the film. The music scored by A.R.Rahman adds to the splender. The ‚ÄúArima‚ÄĚ is a treat to the eyes and it‚Äôs grandness captivated the audience. While ‚ÄúKilimanjaro‚ÄĚ just brought down the speed all of a sudden. But the machu pichu, peru (one of the world wonders) is very beautifully shown in this song.¬†
Overall the movie has lived up to its hype. This has set a milestone for Rajni, setting his already high benchmark even higher. Kudos to the Endhiran a.k.a robot team!

  • Shankar-Rajni-Rahman combo
  • Comedy by Santhanam, Karunas.
  • Graphics by Stan Winston Studio,
  • Neat cinematography

  • Only the length of the film and some songs which were speed breakers and hindered the progress of the story.¬†

Overall Rating : 4/5

Bottom line: a must watch film for Rajni fans. DOT!
